Current UL students must be registered full time and in good standing with the University. You must bring a copy of your most current transcript. Transfer students or graduating seniors must bring a copy of your acceptance letter to UL and a transcript from your high school or current college.
RAGIN’ CAJUN CHEERLEADING TRYOUT REQUIREMENTS:
Tryouts for the 2010-2011 Squad are TBA
The first part of tryouts tumbling evaluations will be made.
Required tumbling is:
- standing back handspring
- standing back tuck
- 1 free pass of your best tumbling (tucks, layouts, fulls)
- There will be a cut made after the tumbling evaluations.
Those who proceed will then have a stunt session to work with stunting partners (co ed stunting) or stunting groups (all girl stunting).
Required stunting is:
- extension
- liberty
- heel stretch full down
- You will be allowed 1 additional stunt of choice and it should be a sequence with at least 2 stunts.
Part 2 of tryouts will consist of a morning and afternoon session. The morning session will include a stunt session, followed by stunting evaluations. After the evaluations, males and female candidates will learn a cheer and the fight song. The afternoon session will consist of cheer & fight song evaluations and an interview with student leaders on campus and/or University staff.
In addition to the above criteria, physical appearance is also a part of the judging criteria. While there is no set height or weight requirements, candidates should be in top physical condition, with an athletically fit body type and an a neat and Collegiate appearance.
Attire for tryouts on both days is red shorts and white athletic top or sports bra for females, and red shorts & white tshirt for males. Wear tennis shoes or your own cheer shoes. Your application MUST BE accompanied by a current unofficial transcript or proof of acceptance to the University.
RAGIN’ JAZZ DANCE TEAM TRYOUT REQUIREMENTS:
Tryouts for the 2010-2011 team are TBA
The first round of tryouts consist of learning & executing the Fight Song and technical evaluations.
Technical requirements are as follows:
- triple & quadruple pirouettes
- fouettes, turns a la seconde, needle turns
- grand jetes, switch leaps, straddle leaps & turning disc
- in addition to other basic dance skills such as pique turns, chaine turns, battements, fan kicks& splits.
- ALL TECHNIQUE IS EXPECTED TO BE EXECUTED ON BOTH RIGHT & LEFT.
Once the first round evaluations are complete, there will be a cut made. Those who continue to the next round can expect to learn a routine approximately 1 minute - 1 minute 15 seconds consisting of JAZZ & HIP HOP CHOREOGRAPHY. In addition, each candidate will have an interview with student leaders on campus and/or University staff.
